42nd Street Projects

MTA Construction & Development has embarked on a series of transformative infrastructure projects along the 42nd Street Corridor, stretching from Times Square to Grand Central Station. This ambitious initiative targets the revitalization of one of Manhattan’s most iconic and high-traffic transit corridors. The program encompasses nearly every major construction discipline, including heavy civil, structural, MEP, utility relocation, steam main replacement, Con Edison feeder wing backs, subway tunnel reframing, micropile foundations, rock tunneling, and the installation of elevators and escalators.

Managing this program required highly complex project coordination and logistics in the busiest and most densely populated area in North America. Intricate stakeholder engagement was critical, involving ongoing collaboration with NYCDEP, Con Edison, Verizon, and NYCDOT for MPT permitting and utility coordination. Extensive community outreach was also essential to minimize disruptions.

Artheon, serving as the prime consultant, provided comprehensive Resident Engineering Inspection (REI), construction management, and program controls services. This included schedule, budget, and risk management, as well as field inspections, document control, and oversight for safety, environmental compliance, and quality assurance. Our team operated as a strategic advisor to MTA C&D, helping guide the delivery of bundled construction contracts—a strategy adopted to streamline execution, reduce costs, and minimize commuter impacts.
